What could be better than asking your questions directly to the specialists! All the partners of the #VirtualBlueDecade initiative offer you a series of 3 virtual events on the occasion of the #WorldOcean(s)Day.
One hour of round-table discussion on a dedicated theme followed by privileged exchanges with the experts attending (in breakout rooms).

ATLANTIC OCEAN BASIN EVENT

LUC HARDY
Luc is the producer of the documentary “The pursuit of Endurance – on the shoulders of Shackleton”. He is now producing a documentary on Sargassum. He is also the founder of Pax Arctica, an initiative that pursues its mission through several complementary activities, starting with the organization of eco-scientific explorations to the production of various books, films and photographs.
Program
One hour of interactive live event (in English with French translation) on the Sargassum issue and potential solutions with Luc Hardy,Mengqui Wang et Prescilla Lambert.
Plus 30 minutes with the opportunity to talk to one of the speakers directly!

MENGQIU WANG
Mengqiu is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the College of Marine Science of the University of South Florida; she works on how to detect Sargassum from the sky using satellite detection to predict when and where large amounts of Sargassum will arrive on the beaches.

PRESCILLA LAMBERT
Prescilla is co-founder of the startup The Marine Box. She creates cardboard from Sargassum! She got the idea when she was a biology student at the Université des Antilles on Martinique.
INDIAN OCEAN BASIN EVENT
MONZER HOSSAIN SARKER
Monzer is currently a lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management at Noakhali Science and Technology University in Bangladesh.
Program
One hour of interactive live event on the development of the Blue Economy in the Indian Ocean with Monzer Hossain Sarker, Simon Wilson and Nina Wambiji.
Plus 30 minutes with the opportunity to talk to one of the speakers directly!

SIMON WILSON
Simon is an original founder of Five Oceans and is based at the Muscat office in Oman. He is a marine scientist with over 18 years of experience and specialises in biodiversity management, particularly marine protected areas, coral reef and mangrove habitats.
NINA WAMBIJI
Nina is the Assistant Director- Fisheries at Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, Kenya. She's a 2020 PEW Marine Fellow working on understanding the billfish species in the Western Indian ocean region. Shes also the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) Country Coordinator for Kenya - 2014- 2021
PACIFIC OCEAN BASIN EVENT

ANA LUCÍA MAYA-AGUIRRE
Ana Lucia is the Director of the Observatory for Marine and Coastal Governance / Center for Social and Environmental Studies in Colombia. She is a lawyer and specialist in constitutional law at the National University of Colombia.
Program
This bilingual (Spanish/English) event will be translated by Gerardo Gentil-Orozco -coordinator of the Constitutional and Environmental Studies Area at the observatory for Marine and Coastal Governance- will feature experts from around the eastern Pacific Ocean who will answer the web’s most searched ocean related questions.

Jackson is a marine biologist at NSERC, Memorial University researching fish and invertebrate communities found on the seafloor and their adaptations to living in highly variable habitats. He enjoys using scientific imagery as a tool for research, education, and communication.

MELISSA ABDERRAHIM
Melissa is a 2020 California Sea Grant Fellow at the California Ocean Science Trust. She is an environmental scientist with a passion for marine and coastal ecosystems and science communication.
